🔥 15-Year-Old Charged After Shooting Injures 12 Near FAMU Homecoming.

⚡ THE SPARK
The youngest shooting victim was 11. The accused shooter is 15. And police say none of the people shot were even the intended targets.
Florida A&M's homecoming football game ended around 6 p.m. Saturday. Less than two hours later, gunfire erupted on Perry Street, steps from Bragg Memorial Stadium, leaving 12 people injured. Eleven suffered gunshot wounds. Another person was hurt fleeing. Six victims were children. One was reportedly a FAMU student. At least three sustained serious injuries, including one in critical condition.
Perhaps the most unsettling detail? Roughly two dozen police officers were already nearby when the shooting happened.
🧠 THE LAYER BELOW
Homecoming brought thousands together for a weekend of celebration. But the shooting exposed three uncomfortable realities about public safety, youth violence, and accountability.
Police were already there. Roughly two dozen officers were stationed nearby when shots rang out. They helped evacuate victims, but couldn't prevent the shooting. It raises a difficult question: How much security is enough when violence can erupt in seconds?
The victims weren't the targets. Police believe a dispute between acquaintances escalated into gunfire, injuring 11 bystanders, including six children. It shows how quickly a personal conflict can endanger an entire crowd—and why access to firearms matters far beyond those involved in the argument.
The accused shooter is a child himself. Anthony Rivers III, 15, faces 11 attempted-murder charges and adult prosecution. He has not been convicted. Florida law allows certain serious cases involving teenagers to move into adult court, raising difficult questions about punishment, rehabilitation, and what could have prevented the shooting.
🎯 THE REAL QUESTION
How does a disagreement between people who know each other become a public emergency that leaves six children injured?
🔮 WHAT’S NEXT
Rivers appeared in court Monday and was ordered detained. Police are reviewing videos, witness statements, and other evidence. Additional arrests remain possible, but investigators have not publicly established the full sequence of events or whether anyone else will face charges.
The answer cannot simply be more security or another round of familiar speeches about violence. This shooting demands scrutiny of firearm access, conflict escalation, event planning, and the choices available to communities hosting thousands of people. Those questions deserve serious answers without turning FAMU or its homecoming into the culprit.
A crowd can be protected by police. But a community is safer when the gunfire never starts.

I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.
Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.
The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.

💰 Magic Johnson-Linked Firm Loaned $2.3 Billion to Billionaire Under Investigation. Magic Johnson's business empire is making headlines after a financial firm tied to the NBA legend provided $2.3 billion in loans connected to billionaire Mark Walter. According to Bloomberg, the money flowed after Walter's insurance companies stopped lending to him following federal subpoenas. Investigators are examining more than $20 billion in previously undisclosed loans involving Walter's businesses. Johnson serves as a minority shareholder and board member of Amistad Financial Group, but there's no evidence he participated in the lending decisions. The revelations raise fresh questions about the financial relationships behind some of America's biggest sports investments, including the Los Angeles Dodgers. (LA Times)

🥊 Obama Unloads on Trump: White House Looks Like a Cheesecake Factory. Barack Obama isn't holding back. Campaigning across Ohio and Michigan ahead of November's midterms, the former president blasted Donald Trump and his Republican allies over what he called cruelty, corruption, and political indecency. Obama slammed Vivek Ramaswamy for an ad featuring his opponent's estranged mother while defending Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed against attacks involving his identity and faith. But his funniest jab targeted Trump's lavish White House renovations, comparing the building to a Cheesecake Factory opened by Saddam Hussein. Trump defended Ramaswamy's controversial ad as Obama urged voters to reject Republican leadership at the ballot box. (Associated Press)
🇺🇸 600,000 Black Voters Sat Out: NAACP Launches Nationwide Mobilization. More than 600,000 eligible Black Ohioans skipped the 2022 midterms. Now, the NAACP, National Urban League, and other organizations are pushing to change that nationwide. Their inaugural National Black Man Voter Day, held October 24, aimed to mobilize over 100,000 Black men through community events, group voting, and grassroots organizing. The initiative comes amid debate over Black male political participation following the 2024 election, when approximately 21% supported Donald Trump, according to Pew Research.
