🔥 Why Seeing Beyoncé Has Become a Rich Person's Game

⚡ THE SPARK

Imagine saving up to see Beyoncé, only to discover you're competing against someone with 1,300 accounts buying tickets before you even get a chance.

That's what the Federal Trade Commission alleges happened during Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour. According to a lawsuit filed October 15, ticket broker REPS used approximately 1,300 accounts to purchase 7,624 tickets to a single Kansas City concert, generating roughly $833,000 in resale profit.

And this wasn't some guy flipping a few extra seats. The FTC alleges the company purchased more than 18 million tickets across events.

Concerts are already expensive enough. Apparently, getting through the door is becoming its own business.

🧠 THE LAYER BELOW

Seeing your favorite artist used to feel like something you could save up for. Now, between ticket prices, fees, and resale markups, attending a major concert can feel like a luxury vacation. And professional brokers are making an already frustrating experience even harder.

  • You're not just competing with other fans anymore. When tickets go on sale, you might imagine thousands of excited people refreshing their browsers. But the FTC alleges REPS used disguised IP addresses, virtual credit cards, and multiple accounts to circumvent purchasing limits. How is an ordinary fan supposed to compete with an operation designed to buy tickets at that scale?

  • The resale market can turn excitement into desperation. You've waited years to see your favorite artist. Maybe your friends already bought tickets. Maybe the concert is your birthday celebration. When the original tickets disappear, paying an outrageous resale price can start feeling like your only option. Brokers don't have to create that emotional attachment. They can profit from it.

  • Live music is starting to feel like a status symbol. Beyoncé isn't the only artist whose concerts can cost fans hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Between premium seating, expensive face-value tickets, and resale markups, the experience increasingly favors people with disposable income. The irony? Some of the most devoted fans may be the very people getting priced out.

🎯 THE REAL QUESTION

Are artists losing touch with their audiences when the people who helped make them famous can no longer afford to see them?

🔮 WHAT’S NEXT

The FTC's lawsuit could help determine whether companies accused of circumventing ticket limits face meaningful consequences. But even if regulators succeed, that won't automatically make concerts affordable. High face-value prices, service fees, and expensive resale tickets are bigger problems than any single broker.

And there's nothing wrong with artists making money. Beyoncé has earned her success, and fans deserve unforgettable experiences. But those experiences shouldn't become practically inaccessible to the people who made them possible.

The solution starts with ticketing systems that actually enforce purchase limits, greater transparency around fees, and resale rules that put fans ahead of professional buyers. Because at some point, we have to ask ourselves what live music is becoming.

Concerts should be for the people who love the music, not just the people who can afford the markup.

  • “We know Black ppl have been redlined and treated unfair.Due to discrimination black ppl deserve the same opportunities as all ppl of color. Barriers are always placed in front of them.We work hard and most times harder than the one afforded opportunities.”

📉 Black Family Wealth Plunges 25% While White Families Get Richer. The racial wealth gap is getting worse. New Federal Reserve data shows the median Black family's net worth dropped 25%, from $49,100 in 2022 to just $36,800 in 2025. Meanwhile, White family wealth increased 6% to $332,100, leaving White families with nine times the wealth of Black families. Experts point to declining home values, retirement savings, and the expiration of pandemic-era financial assistance as possible factors. Black families were already the least wealthy racial group before the decline, raising serious questions about how the gap can close when Black households are losing ground. (The Emancipator)

🇫🇷 Trump Blames Migrants for France’s Violent Protests as Midterms Approach. Donald Trump is pointing to the chaos unfolding in France as a warning to American voters. During a Kansas rally, the president blamed migrants, communists, and immigration policies for violent protests that have rocked French cities. But the demonstrations originally began over rising living costs, struggling schools, and economic frustration. Nearly 1,800 people have been arrested as clashes with police continue. With November's midterm elections approaching, Trump and other Republicans are using the unrest to defend tougher immigration policies and warn Americans about what they believe could happen in the United States.
